California state income tax is 9.3% of your income
Sales tax on purchases 7.50%
Property tax varies for each area but is approximately 1-1.25% of the sales price and in a rising market can only go up 2% a year of current tax bill per year.    Most newer developments have an additional  tax called Mello-Roos.  This tax pays for the new infrastructure.    A one time supplemental tax is charged when you purchase a home,  and this fee varies depending on price and time of purchase. This money goes to San Diego Schools.
RENTAL MARKET:
La Jolla and Del Mar have a very active rental market in all price ranges from furnished studios to lavish estates. There are more rentals available in the North County Area but in other areas of San Diego there is a shortage of rental properties. You should look for rentals at least 4-6 weeks in advance.  Rental prices range from $1 to $1.60 per sq. ft.
